If you are wanting to take your blog seriously, then one of the first things you should do is purchase your own domain. I know investing in your blog is a little scary because during the early stages you probably do not have much if any income coming in, but it’s worth it. You need to invest in your blog to make money. Let’s jump right into to why you should have your own domain.
Why You Should Have Your Own Domain
Looks more professional
Let’s be real here, a domain that doesn’t include .blogspot.com or .wordpress.com looks a heck of a lot more professional. Brands and businesses will be more inclined to want to work together if you have your own custom domain, trust me.
It’s inexpensive
Purchasing your own domain isn’t super expensive – around $15 dollars for the entire year so there’s no reason not to have your own domain.
Now if you have a self-hosted blog, then you also need hosting in addition to your own domain but that’s a topic for another time.
Easier to remember & it’s yours for as long as you want it
It’s a lot easier to remember confettisocial.com than it is to remember confettisocial.wordpress.com, am I right? People are lazy so typing in a few extra characters may deter people from visiting your website. Although you will have to pay for your domain each year, you can keep it as long as you want it.
Good for SEO
It is said that a custom domain website ranks higher than a website without one and I can totally see why. It looks a lot more professional in general so I’m sure that Google and other search engines deem it as more professional too.
