How to Grow Your Email List with a Free Course

My biggest email growth has attributed to my free 4-day email course, PinPerfect. People seriously love actionable freebies and for good reason. I think a free course is an excellent way to start building your list because it’s more helpful than a checklist or guide and really helps your audience get a feel for your teaching style.

Figure out what your audience wants from you

Before I even decided to build an email course, I thought of all the things that I could teach related to social media and then compiled that into a list and sent it over in an email to my subscribers. They were able to vote on as many options as they liked, and to no surprise, Pinterest won by a long shot on what my subscribers wanted to see from me next so that is what I ended up creating for them.

It is important to survey your audience prior to creating anything so that you don’t spend your time working on something that absolutely no one is interested in.

Plan out the logistics

Once you have solidified your idea for an email course, then it’s time to start planning. I’d start by outlining the course and piecing together all the details. I like to create an outline on Google Docs and then fill in the blanks to ensure that I don’t miss any important details.

Create the Content

Now that you’ve completed the planning phase, it’s time to actually start creating the content. What I like to do is create the entire email sequence in something like Google Docs and then once I have finished the writing, then I will copy and paste it over to my email service provider, ConvertKit so I can properly format it and get it all ready to go.

Start Talking About It

Once you’ve completely finished the course, now it is time to share it with the world. Your first step would be to email your subscribers and have them subscribe to the email course. From there, then you can share it as an opt-in on your website, social media, and more.

The Promotion Process

If you don’t promote your free course, then no one is going to know it’s available so make sure to not only promote it to your current email list, but also to new people as well. You want to use this free email course as a list builder so promotion is a huge part of making that a reality.

Places to Promote Your Freebie:
