Oh, Instagram. You have been so dang frustrating lately and have been killing bloggers and business owners everywhere with your crappy algorithm change. I know I’m not the only one who’s been experiencing the algorithm change so I wanted to share a quick post on how to craft the perfect Instagram bio so that you can get your content discovered on Instagram.
How to Craft the Perfect Instagram Bio
Profile picture of yourself
As a blogger or small business owner, your Instagram profile picture should be of yourself. Your potential followers want to connect with a real life human and will be more likely to give your profile a follow if your profile picture is of you. If you’re a larger business with a handful of employees, then using your logo is just fine.
Keywords in your name
Another thing you should include in your Instagram bio is keywords in your name. People who are searching for specific things like a blogger or a social media strategist will be able to discover you easier if you include keywords in your name.
As you can see in the photo above, I include social media strategy directly after my name. This allows people to find me easier if they’re searching on Instagram to find a social media strategist.
Share who you are + what you do
Your Instagram bio should share who you are (a blogger, social media strategist, graphic designer, etc) and what you do. In my case, I’m a social media strategist who helps female entrepreneurs become the life of the party on social media + reach their dream clients.
If you’re a blogger you could include your blog’s main focuses and possibly your blog’s mission statement.
Location
So many brands have found me on Instagram simply because I listed my location in my bio so make sure you put that somewhere to make your profile easier to discover by brands or potential clients. Also, I recommend using location specific hashtags to have people discover you even easier.
Link to your website
Another essential is a link to your website whether you want to highlight your blog or services page. I am currently using a service called LinkTree that allows me to utilize multiple links in my bio instead of just one which comes in handy because I’m able to link my Facebook group, my products, my website, and more.
Way to contact you
If you’re a business account, there is a handy email feature that you can use that will allow people to email you straight from your profile which is nice when brands want to reach out to you. If you don’t have a business account then you need to include that in your profile somewhere otherwise brands or clients won’t know how to contact you.
